Swallows will fly as insects will fly

As I gaze across the lake

I watch you write to me

with deft cursive slants

and undulating dives.

Your language connects

every word uttered,

every living thing

lightly tripping through time.

Your composition is ancient

as the carbon and oxygen

that comprise the insects

you trap with your acrobatics.

You deftly consume others that fly

with an invisible net while sunset spins

its purple light into a mystery loom

as you sew another remnant

of silver stitch deftly written

to complete the sky. Hundreds of you

communicate to me in this corner

about the reoccurring web of life.
