I Have A Dream Speech, August 28, 1963
America has still defaulted on this promissory note of an equal shot at life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness for all people. Look at the prison industrial complex where most of the people in them are black, many for petty drug related charges, the homelessness, the inequity in housing for people of color. Look at the schools, where colleges are getting even more expensive. Look at the price of homes today. Look at the top 1% and the top of that pyramid where they don’t see the common man anymore. Look at the role of women. Look at the illegal but still flourishing illegal sex trade in this very country. Yes, we have made progress since 1963. There is more diversity among professionals, more black people have their own businesses, more people of color and women are in politics, but we still have a long way to go. In the 70′s Powell’s army stole the American Dream and the people need to reclaim it in the next 50 years. We are on the precipice of another military crisis and our economy is still wavering. We all need to get out there. Power to the people is not a cliche, but a very needed phenomenon in today’s world,
