Surfer Boy

You ride tubular

  waves back

      to shore.

You defy undecided tides

      of summer,

           face the turbulence

                  with a shrug

                       and a splash.

 Dart into the shore

    slim arrow

      through fading light.

You have such grace

     on the surface

       of the water.

  Here is the boy

     I almost knew

       before the seriousness

        of  school and family responsibility.

            What a kid you were

               on that board.

 Take tumbles with me

   during long days

        in tunnels made of sea.
