The Wayward Painter

Image

(Peak to Peak Highway, Colorado)

That wild painter

is at it again.

She dips fibrous brushes

into golden yellow paint.

Then she goes to work

on evergreen forest curves

She dabs here and there at random,

mixing in bits of chartreuse, brick red and orange,

outlining lions, tigers and giraffes

into lush mountain foliage.

She overlays gold shimmer,

adding more and more strokes

until she covers entire hillsides

in a blaze of fire sunlight.

In a few weeks the canvas is gone,

ready for the next palette.

The wayward painter will now

prepare the whiter hues of winter.
